While my forte is movies, seeing as that is what my degrees are in, I also happen to love music (and books, and TV). So I thought I would throw together a quick list of songs that are performed by one artist but sound a whole hell of a lot like a completely different one. Please feel free to share your own in the comments sections. O.K. let’s start easy with the no brainier Wolfmother, which sounds uncannily like Led Zeppelin
Another band that sounds like Zep is Kingdom Come. Many call them a one hit wonder, but they really aren’t as they did have one or two more minor hits, and are still around after almost a quarter of a century. Get It On was their biggest hit, and much like people had thought that Klaatu was a secret Beatles reunion album, there were rumors that Kingdom Come was the reformation of Led Zeppelin.
In fact, bands that sounded like or ripped-off Zeppelin were so ubiquitous in the late 1980′s it caused Gary Moore & Ozzy Osbourne to record a song called Led Clones. It is, of course, in the Zeppelin style, but doesn’t that make them guilty of the same thing they are accusing others of? I don’t know maybe I think too much.
Next up Shudder To Think channels Bowie for The Velvet Goldmine soundtrack (and if you haven’t seen the film watch it).
I know that I can’t possibly be alone in having thought that Godsmack’s Voodoo was an Alice in Chains song the first time I heard it.
O.K. I have saved my favorite for last. I love, love, love The Smiths. To me they are The Greatest band that has ever made teen angst its bread and butter, and I know teen angst. Just ask anyone I went to High School with. They don’t come much angstier (not really a word, but it’ll do) then I was. With that in mind I give you Violens song Acid Reign. From it’s Johnny Marrish jangley guitars to it’s Morrisey/Marvin the Martian-esque vocals I think it is spot on Smiths.
Well there you have it. These are some of my favorite Bands that sound like other Bands. Again, if you have any particular fav’s that aren’t included here, please don’t be stingy, share.
